About
The CICALICS (the China Innovation Circles and Academy – Learning, Innovation and Competence Systems) PhD course, also known as the CICALICS Academy, aims to provide an advanced platform for PhD students to develop academic skills and facilitate international exchange and cooperation among students from different countries. As always, this year’s CICALICS will consist from invited lectures by renowned scholars in the field of innovation. Additionally, PhD students will be expected to present papers related to their individual research projects, with each presentation receiving feedback from both their peers and academy professors.
CICALICS 2023 is scheduled to take place from November 22 to November 26, 2023.
CICALICS 2023 comprises two main parts:

CICALICS Workshop (November 25-26)
All PhD students are encouraged to participate in both segments.
The CICALICS PhD course (Academy) encompasses the following key activities:

Lectures focusing on topics related to innovation research and methodologies employed in the field,

PhD project presentations, each lasting approximately 30 minutes, followed by feedback from fellow students and professors,
-
Following the Academy, PhD students are invited to partake in the CICALICS Workshop, with or without submitting a paper.

The winner of the Best PhD Presentation: Jingluan Yang, PhD Fellow at Chinese Academy of Sciences. She presented a working paper titled "Knowledge source switching under state interventions of latecomer regions: A case study of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area".
The runner-up: Sergei Mozheiko, PhD Fellow at Roskilde University, with presentation about his PhD project titled "Complexity and modularity in business models and ecosystems"

We will start on November 22nd at 8.30-09.30 with registrations. Please make sure to arrive a little earlier to register and get settled.
If you are coming by car, please contact yhqin@ucas.ac.cn to arrange a parking spot on campus.
Accommodation:
If you requested accommodation pre-booking at any of the event hotels, the pre-booking will be done on your behalf for the requested period of stay. Remember to bring your passport / ID for checking in at the hotel.
The expenses are covered by the participants themselves. For practical issues regarding accommodation, please contact yhqin@ucas.ac.cn
Refreshments and Meals:
Light refreshments, lunch and dinner will be provided during the academy.
Presentation Format:
If you have submitted your written material for Academy and have been scheduled to present your work (please note that not all submissions were selected for presentation due to a limited number of time slots; please see the programme for details and the allocated time slots). Presentations should be concise, lasting no more than 15 minutes, with an additional 10-15 minutes for questions and feedback by peers and academy professors. A projector and screen will be available for your presentation. Please ensure your presentation is in a compatible format (e.g., PowerPoint or PDF). To facilitate a smooth flow of presentations, we kindly request that you submit your presentation materials by November 20th at noon Beijing time.
